Dr Rachel Garraway

Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care welcomed Dr Rachel Garraway to the team as one of its principal periodontists. Dr Garraway graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland. After spending time in Toowoomba working in private practice, she went on to complete her specialist degree in periodontics.

Since obtaining her specialist qualifications Dr Garraway has gone on to achieve a number professional goals including, receiving the Australian Periodontology Research Foundation prize for her publication on Periodontal Regeneration, working in the Department of Periodontology at the Royal London Hospital (1997) and lecturing/demonstrating in Periodontics…

Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care welcomed Dr Rachel Garraway to the team as one of its principal periodontists. Dr Richard Grant-Thomson

Dr Richard Grant-Thomson joined the Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care team as a principal periodontist. Originally graduating as a dentist from the University of Queensland in 1991, Dr Grant-Thomson began his dental career in the Royal Australian Air Force as a dental officer where he worked for 10 years. Dr Richard Grant-Thomson joined the Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care team as a principal periodontist. Originally graduating as a dentist from the University of Queensland in 1991, Dr Grant-Thomson began his dental career in the Royal Australian Air Force as a dental officer where he worked for 10 years. Passionate about the field of periodontology, Dr Grant-Thomson has a special interest in periodontal regenerative surgery and dental implants. Even during the completion of his specialist qualifications, he was awarded the Australian Periodontology Research Foundation prize for his publication on periodontal treatment in 2001.

Dr Peter Chen graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2007 with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours). Before completing his post graduate training in periodontics at Griffith University, Dr Chen spent 5 years working across a number of community health centres and private practices in Melbourne.

Passionate about periodontology, Dr Chen has completed research into the osseointegration of dental implants in osteoporotic bone. Additionally, his interest in this field has seen him as a sessional clinical supervisor teaching undergraduate dental students at both the University of Melbourne and Griffith University.

Dr Kraatz originally graduated from Griffith University in 2009 and began her career working as a general dentist in both public and private sectors in Queensland and Tasmania, before settling down on the Sunshine Coast. Following this she went on to complete her periodontal specialist training, becoming a qualified Periodontist.

Dr Jennifer Kraatz was welcomed to the Cotton Tree Implant Dentistry and Perio Care team in 2018 as a periodontist. Dr Kraatz originally graduated from Griffith University in 2009 and began her career working as a general dentist in both public and private sectors in Queensland and Tasmania, before settling down on the Sunshine Coast. Following this she went on to complete her periodontal specialist training, becoming a qualified Periodontist.

Over the course of her career, Dr Kraatz has also spent time working as a clinical supervisor and lecturer at Griffith University and Oral Health Services Tasmania where she taught undergraduate students in the areas of general dentistry, dental implants and periodontology. Additionally, she has presented at the International Association for Dental Research, worked with General Practice Training Tasmania to train general medical practitioners in basic dental procedures and worked as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Tasmania.

Dr Kraatz is a member of the Australian Dental Association (has been the state councillor and treasurer), the Australian Society of Periodontology and the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontics.

Alan Timmerman

Alan Timmerman graduated from Griffith University with a Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy in 2010 and after gaining five years' experience across both general and specialist practices joined the Cotton Tree Implant Dentistry and Perio Care team. Through the earlier years of his career Alan developed a passion for periodontics and spent three years working in a specialist practice.

Outside of dentistry Alan enjoys traveling and getting outdoors to go snowboarding and fishing.

Sonia Murray

Sonia Murray is the highly passionate and driven practice manager at Cotton Tree Implant Dentistry and Perio Care (across all three locations). Sonia began her dental career in 2002 as a dental assistant, obtaining her Certificate III in Dental Assisting the following year through the Australian Dental Association.

After a number of years working as a dental assistant (Queensland Teachers Union Health), Sonia was offered an opportunity to step into a management role and help Dr Mark Smith open a new dental practice in Nundah. Sonia Murray is the highly passionate and driven practice manager at Cotton Tree Implant Dentistry and Perio Care (across all three locations). Sonia began her dental career in 2002 as a dental assistant, obtaining her Certificate III in Dental Assisting the following year through the Australian Dental Association.

After a number of years working as a dental assistant (Queensland Teachers Union Health), Sonia was offered an opportunity to step into a management role and help Dr Mark Smith open a new dental practice in Nundah. She pursued this role up until 2008 when she accepted the position of Treatment Coordinator at Perio Care. By 2014 she had been promoted to Front Office Manager and in 2015 became the Practice Manager.

In her role, Sonia enjoys being able to work alongside remarkable periodontists who offer a wealth in knowledge and experience. She also greatly appreciates being able to take on new opportunities that they offer. Valuing her professional development, she has her sights on completing her Diploma of Practice Management.

Sonia holds a Practice Advantage membership with Australian Dental Association Queensland and is a member of Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce.

Away from the practice, Sonia enjoys travelling the world, practising yoga, spending days at the beach with her partner, and spending time with her two Siamese cats. She is also looking forward to welcoming her first child in May 2018.
