Cosmetic Dental Services

Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of general and specialist dentistry that typically provides treatments aimed at improving the overall aesthetics of your teeth and smile. It is generally any dental process that improves the appearance, though not necessarily the function, of an individual’s teeth. This has been found to be an extremely valuable field of dentistry, as a huge amount of people have reported being unhappy with the appearance of their teeth, which can drastically affect their general quality of life. The mouth is possibly the most central focus of the face and body, so if you are uncomfortable with its appearance you may refrain from simple human pleasures such as speaking, smiling and laughing. Cosmetic dentistry allows for people to not only be satisfied with their smile, but proud of it.

Bridges

A bridge is a solution for a missing tooth or teeth. Dental bridges ‘bridge’ the gap created by one or more missing teeth. The crown replacing the missing tooth is joined to crowns made to fit over the neighbouring teeth. In this way, the bridge, made up of three crowns, is supported by the teeth either side of the gap. Sometimes more than one missing tooth can be replaced in this way.

What is the procedure of having a bridge fitted?

During your first visit, the teeth adjacent to the gap are prepared. These teeth are recontoured by removing a portion of enamel, leaving them in a tapered shape, to allow room for a crown to be fitted over them. An impression of your teeth is sent to the laboratory for the technician to form a model of the bridge. Your dentist will make a temporary bridge for you to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while your bridge is being made.

At your next appointment, your temporary bridge will be removed and the new one will be checked and adjusted, then the bridge is permanently cemented into place.

How do I know if I need a bridge?

Dental Payment Plans - BridgesIf you have one or more missing teeth a bridge may be the solution for you. Bridges are important for both functionality and cosmetic reasons, as a missing tooth can affect how you chew and basic oral function, as well as cause you to feel self-conscious about smiling, laughing and talking. In this way, having a bridge fitted is a simple and effective way to address both issues helping you to feel better about your oral health in general. A bridge is also a less invasive and more cost effective way to fill a gap compared to an implant, however is not expected to have the same durability.
