Clinical Advisory Board Chair

Dr Campbell Roberts is the lead dentist at the Maven Dental Leopold family dental practice. Dr Roberts originally graduated with a degree majoring in Biology from the University of Missouri in 1985, before going on to complete his dental degree in 1989 at the University of Melbourne. He has also completed a two year postgraduate course in Orthodontics, and lectures for Progressive Orthodontic Seminars across the USA, Asia and Australia.

With a wealth of knowledge and experience, Dr Roberts has been practicing in the Bellarine Peninsula area since 1994. Before establishing his own private practice, he additionally spent four years serving in the Royal Australian Air Force as a dental officer. As a dentist, Dr Roberts is passionate about restoring and enhancing the smiles of his patients, improving their oral health and self-image. He also ensures he delivers his patients the best in dental care by regularly attending continued education courses to keep up to date with the latest techniques and treatments.

Clinical Director (AU & NZ)

Fred graduated from the University of Sydney, Australia, in 1989. He has some 30 years of clinical experience. This includes starting his own private practice in Castle Hill, Sydney, in 1997. He grew this practice considerably and it went on to become a facility widely-known for clinical excellence. Today, Fred maintains part-time clinical hours at the practice, alongside his role as Clinical Director for both Lumino and Maven Dental (Abano Healthcare Group’s Australian dental practice brand). In this key role for the company, he provides clinical oversight across both sides of the Tasman.

Before becoming Clinical Director, Fred was a highly sought after dental educator. He was well known for his inspirational, honest, and enthusiastic presentations, which focused on achieving continuous improvement in clinical excellence. Fred’s intuitive understanding of the clinical environment and his passion for providing a high standard of patient care connected with his audience and empowered them to take up the challenge. Fred considers himself a lifelong learner and continues to devote time to ongoing education and sharing his knowledge and expertise. He is considered an industry thought leader and has lectured in Australia and internationally on numerous dental and non-dental topics.

Fred was an active member of the part-time teaching faculty at the University of Sydney where he was involved in the undergraduate programme teaching fixed prosthodontics, tooth conservation and oral health courses. He was awarded clinical associate at the university. He has held memberships of several dental industry associations. Fred is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD).

Fred originally joined the board because of his desire to help in the growth of the dental industry. More importantly though, he wanted to realise his passion for delivering excellence in patient care, on a daily basis. In his clinical leadership role, Fred is able to do just that. He has a huge impact and influence on clinical care standards and outcomes for two of the largest trans-Tasman groups of dental practices. He brings to the board and the company a solid foundation of experience with the fundamentals of outstanding clinical practice – excellence in patient care, a commitment to the satisfaction of clinicians in the provision of excellence, and authentic collaboration in its pursuit.

Clinical Advisor and Clinical Advisory Board Member

Alison Coates is a subject matter expert in clinical governance and a registered Oral Health Practitioner with a number of years of clinical experience living and working in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She served for 25 years in the British Army in both active and non-active duties which led to her enthusiasm for standardising policies, procedures, and protocols. 

A passionate educator, her history of working for small, medium, large scale businesses, Government and Defence has afforded her the skills required to manage, audit and train practices in the health sector, and in particular, the Dental Industry.

Alison’s clinical interests include Oral Health, Smoking Cessation and Nutrition and Health. She believes that the Oral Cavity is the window to the soul and that the link between oral and general health is one that must reflect in the treatment planning and provision of care in the dental profession.

As a member of the Clinical Advisory Board, Alison enjoys being able to respond to and support clinical teams within the organisation, helping to maintain quality assurance of clinical delivery to the people in our care.

Clinical Advisor and Clinical Advisory Board Member

Angus graduated from Edinburgh in 1988 and has over 30 years of experience in different sectors of the profession across Scotland and Australia.

Angus’ experience included owning his own practice in Scotland in a remote and rural location providing all aspects of patient care for a whole community, employed as a Clinical Director in the NHS in Scotland, as well as working in Australia in private practice and with the Teacher’s Union dental centre in Brisbane.

Angus has always been interested in the medico-legal aspects of the profession. Working as Clinical Director, he was involved in the development and implementation of policies and processes for the effective delivery of dental care for a large population. In this role, he was also able to engage in Dental Vocational Training directly supporting dental graduates in practice and delivering presentations on medico-legal aspects of our profession.

Since returning to Australia in 2018, Angus has been contracted with 1300Smiles as a dentist in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast and as the Clinical Coach for the company. The main roles for 1300Smiles have been supporting the management team with guidance for clinical issues and supporting any dentists within the company.

Angus is keen on understanding how legislation and policies affect clinical teams in practical terms and how we can support clinical teams to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality dental care for patients.

Dr Claude Capelli is the passionate and driven lead dentist at Maven Dental Samuel Street and a member of the Clinical Advisory Board, offering a wealth of experience and knowledge. Dr Capelli graduated from the University of Queensland in 1986 with first class honours, having completed his Bachelor of Dental Science. After receiving his qualifications, he began his dental career working for Dr Keith Bond at his local dental practice in Acacia Ridge, Brisbane.

In 1995, Dr Capelli took the next step in his career and purchased his own practice from Dr John Boadle and Dr Peter Connors - located on Old Cleveland Road. He relocated the practice in 2001 to Samuel Street where he expanded the practice to include 6 surgery rooms, and a team of 4 clinicians and 10 support staff.

As a dentist, Dr Capelli is focused on achieving the best treatment outcomes for his patients by providing exceptional care and fostering positive dental experiences. He offers special interest in the areas of Orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and dental implants, and is committed to furthering his professional development by regularly attending education courses.

With over 30 years of dental experience, Dr Mark Cull is passionate about sharing his knowledge and experience with others. Given the current state of the marketplace and the rapid change being experienced, Dr Mark also wanted to help guide Maven Dental moving forward.

Dr Mark has a strong belief that all patients should have access to the most modern dental treatments available, particularly in his small regional town of Gympie. He holds a firm belief that the practice of dentistry is most effective for his patients when working with the body as a whole, rather than focusing on the mouth in isolation. Embodying a holistic approach to oral health, Dr Mark embraces the complexities of functional dentistry.

Dr Penny Breen joined Maven Dental in 2016 as an associate dentist. Originally receiving her dental qualifications from the University of Adelaide in 2008, Dr Breen has gone on to complete a number of postgraduate courses, including a mini-residency in prosthodontics. Continually striving to deliver her patients with the best in dental care, she remains up to date with the latest in dentistry by attending courses and training.

Skilled in the areas of cosmetic, general and family dentistry, Dr Breen takes a special interest in providing Invisalign orthodontic treatments. She also has great experience in working with anxious patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease during their visit.

Beyond the practice, Dr Breen invests quality time with her young family, getting outdoors and enjoying quality food.

Clinical Advisory Board Member

Dr Urvashi graduated in dentistry in 1997 from Kurukshetra University in northern India. She worked in private practice in India for 4 years and after moving to Australia she received her Australian Dental Council Certificate in 2003. She has been involved in general dental practice in the City and in Neutral Bay Sydney since 2003. She became part of Maven dental group in 2018.

Dr Urvashi has a particular interest in the diagnosis and treatment of temporo-mandibular dysfunctions (TMJ), craniosacral pain, diagnosing and treating snoring and sleep apnoea, and the early detection of malocclusions in children with a view to minimising future issues and she loves creating beautiful smiles for people through cosmetic dentistry. She is interested in studying the microbiome in the oral biofilm and it’s connection to the rest of the body and also in using  LASERS in dentistry.

With over 25 years of experience in general dentistry, Dr Urvashi is known for her patience, attention to detail, and her gentle and approachable nature. She believes that good dentistry is a blend of creativity, modern techniques and vision. she follows a holistic approach to diagnosis and treatment, keeping the whole body in mind and strongly believes in integrating medicine and dentistry to provide a functional and proactive approach to dentistry.

Dr Urvashi completed a two-year residency in Orthodontics in 2013.  She has done several continuing professional development courses in sleep medicine, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and craniofacial pain. She uses removable and fixed appliances, including Invisalign, myofunctional appliances and braces, to create balance and facial harmony.

Dr Urvashi is one of the principal dentists at Lotus Dental, in Neutral Bay, Sydney.

Clinical Advisory Board Member

Michael graduated from James Cook University Cairns in 2017 and has been enjoying working all throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory. Originally hailing from South Africa, he has called Australia home for 20 years and has been living in Gladstone, QLD his whole life.

Regional, rural and remote dentistry is a particular focus of Michael’s. Based in the 1300Smiles Gladstone practice, he has also had the opportunity to travel to Roma, Proserpine, Darwin and indigenous communities in the Northern Territory to serve these communities specifically in regards to the challenges they face.

Michael loves practicing family dentistry and has a keen focus on treating anxious and nervous patients. He enjoys all areas of dentistry and provides these for his Gladstone patient base, and is in the process of completing his Master Clinician in Implant Dentistry.

Whilst not at work, Michael enjoys camping, fishing and spending beach days with his sausage dog Noodle.

The members of the Maven Dental CAB not only provide direct mentorship to the clinical network but also support Lead Clinicians in their endeavours to mentor their own associates and practice support teams.

Maven Dental are currently piloting a formalised mentoring and development program designed to assist Lead Clinicians and Associates benefit from the vast array of collective knowledge that is the Maven Dental Group network. Focusing not only on excellence in clinical delivery but also leadership and patient experience, the development program will facilitate shred learnings and career progression paths.
