Dr Richard Evans

Dr Richard Evans has been practicing as a periodontist since 1988. After gaining his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1983 from the University of Sydney, Dr Evans went on to complete his Masters of Periodontics at the University of Queensland in 1987. After examination in 2000, he was awarded fellowship at the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons.

With a wealth of experience, Dr Evans is one of the principal dentists here at Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants. He is also an active member within the field of dentistry and is continually seeking new opportunities to further his professional development.…

Dr Richard Evans has been practicing as a periodontist since 1988. With a wealth of experience, Dr Evans is one of the principal dentists here at Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants. He is also an active member within the field of dentistry and is continually seeking new opportunities to further his professional development.

Away from the practice, Dr Evans enjoys playing golf and tennis, and when time permits, travelling with his family. Like most Canberra locals, he is an avid supporter of the rugby league Canberra Raiders.

Dr Belinda Hasegawa

Dr Belinda Hasegawa was welcomed to the Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants' team as a Periodontist. Originally born and raised in Sydney, Dr Hasegawa attended the University of Sydney in 2006, completing her Bachelor of Dentistry (Honours). During her studies, she was also awarded the Dean's Prize for Clinical Excellence in Periodontics.

Dr Belinda Hasegawa was welcomed to the Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants' team as a Periodontist. Originally born and raised in Sydney, Dr Hasegawa attended the University of Sydney in 2006, completing her Bachelor of Dentistry (Honours). During her studies, she was also awarded the Dean's Prize for Clinical Excellence in Periodontics.

Prior to completing her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Periodontology) in 2013, Dr Hasegawa gained a wealth of experience working in private practice and at the Sydney Dental and Westmead Hospitals as a clinical educator. Over the years she has also gone on to develop a special interest in complex regeneration cases for periodontally compromised patients. Her other clinical interests lie in the areas of predictability of guided bone regeneration, nanotopography and tissue engineering.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Hasegawa is a keen traveller and an avid tennis player.

Dr Leo Lander

Dr Leo Lander graduated as a dentist in 2005, following which he worked in the public sector for several years and doing 2 years of training in OMFS overseas. At the time of doing public dentistry he finished his MBA degree to develop a stronger business and financial background. In 2014-2016 Dr Lander completed 3 years of postgraduate training in the University of Otago (NZ) to become a specialist periodontist.

Dr Leo Lander graduated as a dentist in 2005, following which he worked in the public sector for several years and doing 2 years of training in OMFS overseas. In 2014-2016 Dr Lander completed 3 years of postgraduate training in the University of Otago (NZ) to become a specialist periodontist.

Dr Lander has always held a strong focus on Periodontics and Implantology. He always aims to provide all his patients with a healthy periodontal dentition and a healthy smile. He believes having teeth as a natural organ is preferable to an artificial replacement; however, sometimes the missing teeth need to be replaced with implant retained prostheses. As a Periodontists, he is committed to assisting his patients with developing the potential implantation sites and placing the implants where they are required from the restorative perspective.

Hygienist

Melanie Cruise

Melanie Cruise was welcomed to the Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants practice in 2004 as a dental hygienist. Over the years Melanie has completed a number of qualifications to support her dental hygiene career, including a Diploma in Dental Hygiene, a Certificate in Radiography and an Oral Surgery Course through London Hospitals. She is very driven in her field and is committed to providing her patients with the highest level of care.

In her spare time, Melanie enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling and keeping active by playing Oz tag and netball.

Hygienist

Claire Long

Experienced dental hygienist, Claire Long, was welcomed to the Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants team in 2009. Claire initially completed her Dental Hygiene studies in Adelaide before moving to Sydney in 2000 to begin her career. After gaining valuable experience she relocated to Canberra joining the friendly and passionate team at Capital Periodontics.

Claire brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to her role having worked in general dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics and oral maxillofacial surgery. She is also furthering her studies and completing her final year in her Bachelor of Health Science.

​Outside her clinical role at Capital Periodontics, you will find Claire exploring Canberra’s mountains, drinking chai at a local café or travelling the world seeking her next adventure.

Sandra Lang

Sandra Lang was welcomed to the friendly Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants team as an experienced Dental Hygienist. Originally from the USA, Sandra completed her Bachelor of Science (Dental Hygiene) in 1987 from the University of Minnesota.

Prior to moving to Australia, Sandra spent time working in general practices across Minneapolis (MN) and Aspen (CO) and also in a periodontal practice in Zurich, Switzerland. She initially joined Capital Perio in 1997 where she worked for 3 years before returning in 2015.

As a Hygienist, Sandra is passionate about motivating and educating her patients about the importance of great oral health. She loves getting to know each of her patients and making them feel comfortable through a professional yet personal dental experience.

Sandra keeps up to date with her professional development by attending yearly development days in the ACT as well as the National Dental Hygiene Conference. She has been a member of the Australian Dental Hygiene Association since 1997.

In her spare time, Sandra enjoys discovering new places for walks and food.

Margo Townsend-Evans

Capital Periodontics and Dental Implants welcomed Margo Townsend-Evans to the team in 1993. Originally from England, Margo began her dental career as a dental nurse, completing her Certificate of Dental Nursing at the University College Hospital in London. She later returned to the London's Royal Dental Hospital where she completed the National Diploma in Dental Hygiene.
