Meet The Team

Dr Mohamed Omar graduated from university in 2000, before completing a one-year accredited residency in Oral Surgery (Chair University) and passing the Royal College exams to become a member of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). He then moved with his family to Newcastle in 2007.

Dr Mohamed has a wealth of experience in general dentistry and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 2012. Mohamed enjoys different aspects of dentistry and believes your clinician should always keep up to date with the latest techniques. As such, he has two Postgraduate Diplomas; Dental Implants from Sydney University and Orthodontics from James Cook University.

Outside of his practice, Mohamed enjoys playing soccer and spending time with his family, often at one of Newcastle’s beaches.

Dr Agnes Zhao completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Otago in New Zealand with distinction in 2011. Drawn to the coastal lifestyle and the vibrant food scene, she made her way here in Newcastle, where she has been a valued dentist practising from Maven Dental Newcastle since 2014.

Dr Agnes is dedicated to providing the highest quality dental care, tailoring her treatments to meet the unique needs of each patient. She places great emphasis on patient comfort and oral health, ensuring that even the most nervous patients feel at ease and confident about their dental care.

With a gentle approach and a focus on preventative care, Dr Agnes helps her patients achieve and maintain optimal oral health. She finds great satisfaction in seeing her patients return with renewed confidence for ongoing dental needs.

In her downtime, Dr Agnes enjoys going for long runs and loves taking part in local, interstate and overseas running festivals.

Dr Jo is a Newcastle local and Merewether High School graduate who completed her BDS at the University of Adelaide. Whilst there she was invited to develop educational modules for the University’s prosthodontics program analysing various dental materials. Jo has also completed her Primary Dental Examinations granting her membership of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. She is a member of the Australian Dental Association and previous committee member of the Newcastle Branch. She worked on the Mid North Coast before returning to Newcastle to run her practice from Maven Dental Newcastle.

Jo is a firm believer in a preventative approach to dentistry and is willing to spend time with her patients to equip them with the skills and knowledge to maintain their oral health throughout their lifetime. She is gentle and patient and being a mum of two she is also great with kids. Jo provides the whole spectrum of general dentistry and has additional post graduate training in Invisalign and Sleep Dentistry. She works with local sleep physicians including her husband to provide dental solutions for sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnoea, nocturnal bruxism and snoring.

Outside of work, Jo enjoys walking her dog Momo, hiking and getting her hands dirty in her vegie patch. You may run into her at a local playground, shopping centre or beach while she keeps her two young kids entertained, fed and largely out of trouble.

Dr Camila Abdanur Fonseca joined the team at Maven Dental Newcastle from West Pymble Dental Surgery in June 2021. Graduating from the University of Brasilia (Brazil) in 2011, Dr Camila has been practising in Sydney for several years.
She is a talented young dentist that believes her patients must be treated like family. Her friendly manner ensures a comfortable and pleasant experience at the dentist, and her priority is to understand her patients and provide the best care.

Dr Camila is a young professional who is interested in all new technology. She is always seeking opportunities to stay up-to-date with the ever-evolving world of dentistry in order to provide the best possible care for her patients. She is completely fascinated with dentistry and regularly attends dental conferences and courses all around Australia, Asia, and back home in Brazil.

She loves the feeling of improving her patients' oral health and providing knowledge to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Coming from a preventative background, Dr Camila has a passion for educating her patients with strategies to improve their oral and overall health. She also has a keen interest in oral surgery and cosmetic dentistry.

Away from the practice, she enjoys spending time with family and friends and exercising outdoors.

Dr William Tarn-Chapman began his higher academic pursuits with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology (BSc), Newcastle University, UK (2019). Having completed his degree, he recognised a passion for science and healthcare that he wished to explore. He then completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), University of Central Lancashire, UK (2023). Dr Will has now settled in New South Wales, and is practicing from Maven Dental Newcastle.

When it comes to his practice, Dr Will finds great satisfaction in performing fillings, as he enjoys trying to recreate the natural appearance of the tooth, and each filling feels like an opportunity to restore both function and self-confidence in patients. Root canal treatments are similarly rewarding, as the care and attention required for these procedures aligns with his passion for overcoming any challenges they present. He also has a growing interest in complicated extractions and dental implants.

Above all else, Dr Will most enjoys working closely with his patients - he loves to hear their stories, provide care for all the family, and become a trusted provider in maintaining health. He also loves the challenges that dentistry presents, and with the advancements in technology, he is confident he can push the boundaries of the available materials to provide lasting solutions.

Outside of the clinic, sailing has been a passion of Dr Will’s for many years. He has competed nationally and internationally in his junior and youth years, where he learnt a lot about discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. He also loves anything hands-on; Dr Will has worked on everything from cars to phones, and even produced his own furniture using hand-sawn joinery. These activities allow him to stay creative and constantly learn new skills.
