Meet The Team

With a wealth of experience Dr Susan Dalton began operating her practice from Maven Dental Pioneer in 2015. Originally from England, Dr Dalton graduated from the University of London in 1988 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. Following her studies she spent a number of years working in general practices before establishing her own practice in a small village in Dorset on the south coast of England. After having two children Dr Dalton and her family moved to Mackay in sunny Queensland, where she has since been living and working for over 12 years.

Passionate about dentistry and ensuring everyone has access to quality dental care, Dr Dalton has taken part in two mission trips to Ukraine and one to Fiji. Her career has also seen her be part of the Royal Flying Doctor Service's Mobile Dental team, traveling to Winton and Collinsville communities in regional Queensland. Additionally, prior to relocating her practice to the Pioneer clinic, she spent a number of years working in another local general clinic.

Dr Dalton thoroughly enjoys the variety offered within general dentistry, from the types of treatments provided through to the varying people who visit the clinic. Each day she focuses on helping her patients to achieve excellent oral health that will last them a lifetime. Dr Dalton also regularly attends lectures, study clubs and practical courses to ensure she provides her patients with the best quality in dental care.

Away from her practice, Dr Dalton enjoys being part of her local church group and being an active member in the community's theatre group. She also loves spending time with her family and two dogs, visiting the beach, reading, sewing and swimming.

Dr Susan Dalton is part of the Australian Dental Association.

Dr Shaili Shah is local to the Mackay area, being here since 2015. She has worked in the dental industry for more than 12 years and has experience in all aspects of General Dentistry. She’s empathetic and proficient with her work and is eager to tend to your dental needs and provide any necessary treatment. 

She has a special interest in the following.

• Prosthodontics: Preservation, Restoration, Rehabilitation of damaged and missing teeth, including implants, and Maintenance 
• Alignment of teeth (Invisalign)
• Cosmetic dentistry: Teeth whitening, Composite or ceramic build-up (crowns and veneers)

She has also completed a mini-residency in Fixed Prosthodontics and is a certified Invisalign provider.

Shaili is married and settled in Mackay with two kids. Outside of work, she loves to cook, be active, spend time with family and explore new places and food. 

Dr William Buchhorn is passionate about providing quality general dentistry to patients living in the Mackay region. Having graduated from the University of Queensland in 1987 with a Bachelor of Dental Science, Dr Buchhorn began his career working for Queensland Health in Mount Isa and Cloncurry. After a number of years developing his skills and knowledge, he made the move to Mackay in 1995 where he has been practicing since.

Understanding the importance of maintaining his knowledge and skills, Dr Buchhorn regularly attends courses, lectures and seminars to keep up to date with the latest in dental techniques and technology. This professional development ensure that he continues to deliver the highest level in care to his patients.

Dr Lochlan Monckton, a recent graduate from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours), is the newest dentist practising from Maven Dental Pioneer. Raised in the close-knit communities of Millmerran and Brisbane, Dr Lochlan has always been passionate about healthcare and community service.

Dr Lochlan has developed a keen interest in oral surgery, cosmetic dentistry, and paediatric dentistry. His patient-centred approach ensures that all his patients feel heard and involved in their treatment decisions, making for a more collaborative and comforting dental experience.

What Dr Lochlan enjoys most about his role is the ability to create a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for his patients. His empathetic nature and strong communication skills help to ease any dental anxieties, making each visit as stress-free as possible. Dr Lochlan is committed to providing exceptional dental care and treatment, particularly to those who may feel apprehensive about visiting the dentist.

Outside of his professional life, Dr Lochlan is an avid adventurer. He enjoys spearfishing and skiing, showcasing his love for both the sea and the slopes. Travelling and watching various sports also form a significant part of his leisure activities.
