Maven staff support domestic violence charity

The lack of affordable accommodation in Queensland for women leaving abusive relationships is a serious issue, and 300,000 women experience domestic violence in Australia each year. Realising the need for such services, My Friend’s Place began planning on how they could respond to that need.

Maven Dental Group heard My Friend’s Place’s message and wanted to do our part to help the charity. ‘Our community has responded very strongly to our requests for assistance – we are hearing them say loud and clear, enough is enough and asking ‘how can we help?’ and ‘what can we do for these women?’

My Friends’ Place is a not for profit organisation providing affordable short-term and emergency accommodation to women who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness as a result of violence or abuse.

From January 2018, Maven Dental Group staff collected amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste and body wash whenever travelling for work. This resulted in 45kg of toiletry items that was donated to the My Friend’s Place charity last week.

My friends Place provides safe houses for women who have found themselves homeless due to domestic violence situations. The need is so great that they are sometimes turning away 6-7 women a week as they just don’t have the room.
