Dr Huei Chen brings valuable experience and knowledge to her patients. Upon graduating from the University of Melbourne, Huei worked in Bendigo for a year where she enjoyed the country lifestyle before returning to Melbourne.

Relocating to Hobart has been an exciting 'next step' for Dr Chen and she looks forward to establishing meaningful relationships with her patients at Dr J. A. Chau Dental Surgeons clinic.

Dr Chen enjoys the variety of general dentistry and finding the best treatment options for her patients. With a calming but encouraging manner, she believes in a gentle approach to dental care. She is enthusiastic about helping children and adolescents develop excellent oral health habits, however, she enjoys sharing this passion with patients of all ages.

In her spare time, she can be found curled up with a good book, hiking or running and exploring her new home!

Dr Susna Abraham began her dental career in Canberra, before relocating to Hobart, now practising from our clinic at Dr Chau Dental Surgeons. Drawn to Tasmania’s natural beauty, she moved with her husband to explore the stunning landscapes that the region has to offer.

Dr Susna has a keen interest in all areas of dentistry, with a special focus on endodontics. Her passion for continued learning led her to join the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, where she is pursuing further studies to enhance her practice.

Known for her gentle approach and attention to detail, Dr Susna is committed to delivering personalised treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs. Whether helping patients alleviate pain or restore their smiles, she takes pride in making a positive impact on their oral health and well-being.

After trading the snowy plains of Canada for the sandy beaches of Queensland while completing her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree at James Cook University, Dr Phoebe Kriel decided to return to her roots and settle here in Hobart, somewhere with a more familiar climate.

Growing up with two parents in the medical field, Dr Kriel always knew that she wanted to pursue a career centred around helping others, so dentistry was a natural choice.

Known for her compassionate demeanour and gentle touch, patients can rest easy knowing they will be heard and well cared for in Dr Kriel’s chair. Having been a nervous patient herself as a child, she has a soft spot for those less than thrilled to be in the dental chair – making her an expert in managing patients with lingering dental anxiety.

While some of her favourite patients are typically either the very young or very “experienced”, she has a keen interest in empowering patients of all ages to reach their aesthetic goals and smile with confidence.

When she is out of the office, Dr Kriel enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, paddleboarding and Pilates. 

Toni McGovern graduated with a Bachelor of Oral Health Sciences from the University of Essex in 2018, having previously qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2008. After six years at a specialist periodontal clinic in London, Toni moved to Australia in 2023, initially working in a periodontal specialist clinic before settling in Tasmania in May 2024.

Born in Devon, United Kingdom, Toni has always loved the countryside. Known for her positive energy and sense of humor, she enjoys making patients feel at ease, often lightening the mood with a good dad joke.

Toni is deeply passionate about motivating her patients to improve their oral hygiene. She finds it especially rewarding to guide nervous patients on their journey from apprehension to confidence, witnessing their transformation as they achieve excellent gum health and look forward to each appointment.

Building long-term clinical relationships is one of Toni’s favorite aspects of her job, and she values working alongside passionate colleagues, from specialists to nurses, who inspire her daily.

Outside of work, Toni enjoys walking her Bengal cat, Peanut, in scenic locations, camping, and indulging her love for all things Jane Austen. She is also an avid wildlife photographer and enjoys the art of calligraphy.

Lucy Nichols has operated her oral health therapy practice at the Dr J. A. Chau Dental Surgeons clinic since 2014. Lucy followed in the footsteps of her late grandfather, Dr Brian Gedye, completing a Bachelor of Oral Health Science at LaTrobe University. After receiving her qualifications, she returned home to Hobart to begin her career in hygiene and dental therapy.

Lucy is a passionate oral health therapist who enjoys working with patients of all ages. She particularly likes building strong relationships with her patients and establishing great rapport with the younger patients. Her kind and compassionate nature assists in her patients feeling comfortable and relaxed during their appointment.

in her spare time, Lucy enjoys spending quality time with her friends, family and pet rabbit, Parsley. She is also interested in interior design, fashion and photography.
