Meet The Team

Dr David Bodie graduated from the University of Dundee, Scotland, in 1987 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. During the first 10 years of his career Dr Bodie practiced dentistry in the UK before relocating his practice to Hervey Bay.

Experienced across a wide range of dental services, Dr Bodie enjoys helping his patients however he can - whether in practice providing routine general dentistry or in theatre completing more complex procedures under general anaesthesia. Dr Bodie takes great pride in his work and strives to ensure he leaves you feeling confident about your lifelong oral health.

Heavily invested in his professional development, Dr Bodie keeps across the latest advancements in dental technology and procedures by attending seminars and postgraduate courses. He has also developed a keen interest in orthodontics, completing a two-year residency with sights on completing another two-year program through the Sydney Dental Hospital.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Bodie enjoys spending time with his wife Jane and their son Benjamin and getting outdoors to play golf or go skiing.

Dr Rachel McDowall was welcomed to the Maven Dental Hervey Bay clinic and has operated her practice there since December 2016. Originally from Scotland, Dr McDowall graduated from the University of Dundee in 2014 with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. After receiving her dental qualifications, she spent her time working in general practice clinic in Glasgow and Dundee before making the move to Australia in 2016. Alongside her dental practice, Dr McDowall focuses on furthering her professional development through training courses.

Working in general dentistry, Dr McDowall enjoys the day-to-day challenges and variety offered by her practice. She particularly likes working with kids and anxious patients where she focuses on building strong relationships. Being able to meet so many wonderful people Dr McDowall places great focus on getting to know each and every one of her patients, establishing great rapport and communication.

Away from her practice, Dr McDowall loves exploring her new home of Hervey Bay with her husband. She also enjoys keeping active by running, cycling and her new hobby of stand-up paddle boarding.

Dr Alan Yang relocated his practice to Maven Dental Hervey Bay in 2021. After completing his Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Queensland in 2019 and graduating with honours, Dr Alan moved to Hervey Bay where he initially worked within the public sector.

He enjoys being a part of the Hervey Bay’s close-knit community where he can get to know his patients more personally. Dr Alan Yang is a passionate dentist who always strives to ensure each of his patients receive the best treatment while in his care.

Although Dr Alan enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, he is particularly interested in the restorative and preventative side, with the focus on ensuring all patients feel comfortable in the dental chair and leave with a smile on their face!

Outside of his practice, you’ll find Dr Alan spending time outdoors, playing board games and treating his palette to the different cuisines Hervey Bay has to offer as well as recreating them at home for his friends!

Originally from Sydney, Dr Amy Fan made the move to Brisbane to study a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) at the University of Queensland and completed her degree in 2018. During her studies, Dr Amy practiced in various locations throughout Queensland including Brisbane, Dalby, St George, and Childers, and even volunteered in Cambodia. She has since relocated her practice to Maven Dental Hervey Bay and is a friendly and compassionate dentist.

Dr Amy enjoys all aspect of general dentistry, however, is particularly interested in root canal treatment as she believes it is a great way to give a tooth a second chance. She also enjoys the challenge of restoring front teeth, as she has seen firsthand how the treatment significantly impacts a person’s smile and self-confidence. Most importantly, Dr Amy is passionate about motivating and educating her patients to maintain good oral health habits so that their teeth can last well into the future.

Outside of her practice Dr Amy enjoys exploring Hervey Bay and the surrounding towns, camping with friends, and tinkering around in the garden (even though she may not have the greenest thumb).

Dr Max (Narrong) Thach is a dynamic and skilled dentist at Maven Dental Hervey Bay, known for his comprehensive approach and commitment to patient care. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland in 2016, leading to a Bachelor of Dental Health Science in 2021 and a Master of Dentistry in 2023 from Griffith University.

During his placements with Queensland Health, Dr Max gained significant experience in oral surgery, extracting over 100 teeth and assisting in emergency dental care. His proficiency also extends to emergency dental and complex restorative procedures like root canals and crown placements.

Dr Max’s approach to dentistry is characterised by a deep commitment to patient comfort and a passion for preserving and restoring natural teeth, providing significant relief and improving patients' quality of life.

Originally from Adelaide, Dr Max moved to Queensland in 2014 where he began his tertiary studies. His journey reflects hard work and dedication, balancing part-time jobs throughout his education to support his ambitions.

Beyond his professional life, Dr Max has a love for learning languages, with a particular interest in Chinese and Japanese. His previous experience as a senior barista fuels his passion for quality coffee. And as a fitness devotee, he frequents the gym, ensuring he stays in healthy condition.
