Dr Nirmani Abeywardana gave us some insights into what inspired her to pursue a career in dentistry and what advice she gives her patients. Discover the full article below:
I’ve always wanted to work in the medical field. Dentistry, in particular, really stood out for me and at the time wasn’t something that many people (especially women) chose to pursue a career in. I’ve always been drawn to doing something that’s a bit more unique, not just career wise but in all aspects of my life, so dentistry was the perfect option for me.
Not originally, no, but I certainly am now. I’m originally from Sydney but was excited to move here to the Sunshine Coast where I really enjoy the more relaxed lifestyle compared to the hustle and bustle of Sydney. I also really love the community here and being able to provide quality care to the locals and even tourists that visit the area. That’s the great thing about working in dentistry, you discover these amazing opportunities to be able to travel and find yourself in amazing places like the coast.
Floss, floss, floss! If you want to keep your natural teeth for life it is important to floss daily.
I use the Oral B Braun electric toothbrush. It’s a really good toothbrush and even has a little pressure sensor which reminds me not to press too hard on my teeth as I’m brushing. It also has a two-minute timer, which as most people know, is the perfect amount of time to effectively brush your teeth.
Spending quality time with friends and my two puppies, always makes me smile.
One is a cavoodle and the other one is a spoodle. I love that they don’t shed any hair! They most certainly brighten my day, I mean how could they not?
