How To Maintain Your Smile For Life

This Dental Health Week, Dr Mark Cull from Channon Lawrence Dental has highlighted some of the lifestyle choices that can negatively affect our teeth as we age and what we can do to help prolong the life of our teeth.

"Oral health is the foundation of our wellbeing, and a healthy smile for life should be a goal for all of us regardless of our age," Dr Cull said.

Certain habits and activities can negatively affect your oral health, and it's even more important to be aware of these factors and their effects as we age.

Lifestyle choices that can have a negative effect on your teeth

  • Poor Diet
  • Smoking
  • Regular alcohol consumption
  • Poor oral hygiene routine

Addressing these lifestyle factors throughout your life will have a positive impact on the health of your mouth. However, as we age, we are still at risk of several oral health conditions.

Dr Mark Cull advises that is it key to have clear communication with your dentist to highlight any medication you take as well as any medical issues you have.

On the brighter side, despite our ageing population, more and more elderly people keep their natural teeth thanks to improved access to oral health care and a better understanding of how we can take of our oral wellness at home.

Dr Mark Cull's tips for maintaining getting the most out of your natural teeth
