School Holiday Dental Health Tips

School holidays are kicking off around the country, kids are getting a well-deserved break, parents are stressed excited about spending two whole weeks entertaining their little tackers! Just to make things a little easier we’ve put together 5 quick tips to help maintain your kids oral health whilst they’re on holidays.

Travelling Teeth Kit

Planning an adventure with the kids during school holidays? We know everyone gets a little excited when they are packing for a holiday and some stuff gets left at home but it’s important to pack the essentials for your teeth.

Whether you’re a careful planner or a last minute, panic packer make sure you remember all your oral health supplies. Tick off the toothbrush, toothpaste and floss at the very least! To make sure you all have a nice white smile in all your destination selfies also consider a spare toothbrush, mouthwash, and sugar-free gum.

Snack Attacks

School holidays means our kids might have a lot of spare time and we all know they’re going to be tempted to snack throughout the day. When we constantly snack the bacteria and acids attack our teeth! So our saliva get a chance to work its magic and neutralise these acids in our mouth we need to reduce our kids’ snack times. Try and stick to set meal times and if you want to plan a snack try and keep it healthy.

Water, water, water

Keeping your little tacker hydrated is important but water will also help reduce the chances of tooth decay. Drinking plenty of water will help clear bacteria, leftover food particles and plaque from the teeth and mouth. Try and limit those sugary drinks as much as possible.

Dental Trauma

It’s all fun and games until someone busts a tooth!

Keeping the kids active and entertained is going to help you fill in the spare time during the holidays. Ideally we want to make sure your kids avoid dental trauma all together but accidents happen!

If the unexpected happens and your child damages their teeth it’s important to act quickly. Always get in touch with your dentist immediately. Many of our Maven Dental practices offer same-day and emergency dental but they can also advise you on what to do then and there.
