It’s April and that can only mean one thing, Oral Cancer Awareness Month! This campaign throughout April raises awareness of mouth cancer and shares important messaging about being mouth aware.
At Maven Dental we’re reminding everyone that examinations by your oral health professional remain the best method to detect oral cancer in its early stages.
What is oral cancer?
Mouth cancer, also known as oral cancer, refers to several variations of cancers that develop in any parts that make up the oral cavity. Oral cancer can occur on the lips, gums, tongue, inner lining of the cheeks and mouth lining.
Be mindful of symptoms for early detection
In between dental visits it’s important to check your mouth regularly while being aware of the following warning signs!
- Pain in your mouth
- Difficult or painful swallowing or chewing
- Mouth ulcers that don’t heal
- Bleeding or numbness in the mouth
It’s much easier to treat Oral Cancer when detected early so if any of these oral cancer symptoms are identified and persist for days or weeks, it is important to book an appointment with your local Maven Dental practice. Your oral health clinician will be able to discuss the different treatment options. As with any cancer, having your oral cancer diagnosed as soon as possible will help ensure your treatment is as effective as possible.
