What are dental implants?

Dental implants are artificial roots and teeth that are surgically placed into your upper or lower jaw bone. Implants are designed to look and feel as close to natural as possible. Implants can often restore and even enhance the function and look of your smile.

Dental Implants are commonly made of titanium root (post) and a crown. These components are made of a biocompatible (not harmful or toxic) material that is accepted by the body. Your natural bone secures the implants into place by naturally fusing to the implant.

Reasons for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a great option for patients seeking to enhance the look of their smile and restore normal functionality in the mouth and jaw. Unlike other alternatives, dental implants are a long-lasting solution that allows you to eat, speak and floss like normal. Other reasons for dental implants include:

  • Replacing damaged or diseased teeth
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space
  • Support a bridge or denture making them more comfortable and secure

Commonly there are two types of dental implants, conventional (full) implants and mini (micro) implants. Both offer the same function but, as their names suggest, they only differ in size. Typically, mini implants are used when there is little space the jaw bone for a full implant to be placed.

Dr Kozeniauskas and his team are experienced in dental implant treatments and use proven techniques to ensure the best outcomes for you. At Nova Dental we offer a range of different dental implant options to accommodate your unique dental needs including:

Single and Multi-tooth replacement

If you have one or more missing, damaged, or diseased teeth, dental implants will enhance functionality and restore a confident, healthy smile.

Fixed Bridgework or Full Arch

If you are missing all your teeth or a large portion of your teeth are damaged or diseased, a fixed bridge or full arch anchored to dental implants may be the best solution.

All-on-4® is an advanced technique that allows a whole arch of teeth to be supported by four implants. This can be used to replace either the upper and/or lower jaw to support fixed natural looking and functioning replacement teeth.

Dentures can be implant-supported to provide a more comfortable and secure feel by using special attachments to reduce movement in the mouth. Denture retention systems make dentures as firm and natural as your own teeth. Implant support dentures are less irritable and will reduce gum and bone damage that traditional dentures may cause.

Dental Implant Procedure

Before any treatment is decided, you’ll need to attend an initial free consultation with Dr Kozeniauskas and the team at Nova Dental. The team will assess your unique needs and provide the best implant options for you.

Once your treatment plan has been mapped out by the Nova Dental team they will prepare you for implant placement and restoration.

In some cases, the team may need to remove existing teeth, and prepare the jawbone for oral surgery. After you’ve healed, the team will surgically place the implant in the jawbone creating a strong foundation for your replacement tooth. Again, you will need to wait for this to heal before we move to the implant restoration phase. Once your jawbone and soft tissue has healed again, we will create moulds of your teeth and place them on the implant post.

Every case is different and healing times will vary from person to person. The entire process may take months depending on well your mouth responds and heals to the treatment.

How much Do Dental Implants Cost?
