So you forgot your toothbrush

It happens to all of us at some point; you're on holiday or camping and you think you've packed it but you go to grab it and...oh no...your toothbrush isn't in your bag!

It's all going to depend on where you are and what you actually packed....toothpaste? Floss? Mouthwash? What about wet wipes? If you're not near a supermarket or pharmacy, what can you do?

Now that's not too bad is it? BUT WAIT - what do you do when you've forgotten both your toothpaste and your toothbrush with no mouthwash, mints or gum within sight? Luckily, our Wellness People here at Maven Dental have some super handy travel hacks for you (and your mouth!):

Use a piece of paper, a napkin or a paper towel. Simply rub it along your teeth then rinse vigorously with water and spit it out. It won’t give you the satisfying sensation of having fresh-smelling breath or totally clean teeth, but it’s better than nothing!

If you have skin wipes. Just bare your teeth and wrap the wipe on your finger. Gently wipe your teeth in a downwards motion. Follow this by rinsing vigorously with water.

If you’re out in the great outdoors, you can use a twig. We know from history that chewing on certain tree twigs can have a positive effect on keeping our teeth clean but take care as you don’t want to cause damage to the soft tissues inside your mouth.

Of course, there’s no alternative to using a good healthy brush (changed every 3 months), a fluoride-based toothpaste, floss, and antibacterial mouth rinse. However, with these useful tips you’ll be able to get through a night or two until you can get to a supermarket or pharmacy.

When you return from your trip, will you need a check-up? Find your nearest Maven Dental practice, book an appointment and come in and show us your holiday snaps ??.
