Dr Rachel Garraway
Principal Periodontist (Clinical Advisory Board Member)

Dr Rachel Garraway

Dr Garraway graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) in 1992. She worked in private practice in Toowoomba before returning to university to undertake specialist training in periodontics.

Rachel was awarded the Australian Periodontology Research Foundation prize for her publication on Periodontal Regeneration. In 1997 she travelled to London to accept a position in the Department of Periodontology at the Royal London Hospital. Dr Garraway is a Lecturer at the University of Queensland Dental School and lectures extensively on dental implants and potential complications.

She is a Speaker and Fellow of the International Team for Implantology, director of the ITI Brisbane North Study Club, a past President for ANZAP (Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists), a Member of the Board of Studies (Periodontics) for RACDS. and a member of the ADAQ CPD panel. 

Rachel is happily married with three teenage children and a dog. To escape the mayhem, she enjoys trail running and reading.

Dr Grant-Thomson graduated as a dentist from the University of Queensland in 1991 and worked as RAAF Dental Officer for ten years. He obtained Fellowship in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in 1998.

Dr Peter Chen graduated in 2007 from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours). He worked in community health centres and private practices in Melbourne for 5 years before undergoing specialist training in periodontics at Griffith University.

His research was on the osseointegration of dental implants in osteoporotic bone. Peter supervises post-graduate students at the University of Queensland, and previously supervised dental students at the University of Melbourne and Griffith University.

Outside of periodontics, Peter spends time with his wife, Grace, and their young daughter, Ellie.

Dr Farag graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Science in 2003 from Cairo University followed by postgraduate training in periodontics in 2010. After moving to Australia in 2011, Amro commenced his PhD at Griffith University where he published several original papers, conference papers, and a book chapter in the field of tissue engineering of periodontal structures, and was awarded his PhD in 2016.

Outside of work Amro enjoys spending most of his spare time with his wife Yomna and his three kids, taking them to the beach and feeding farm animals.

Michelle Fraser
Periodontal Hygienist

Michelle Fraser

Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care welcomed Michelle Fraser to the team in 2001 as a periodontal hygienist. Michelle completed her dental hygiene qualifications at the University of Alberta, Canada in 1991. Prior to moving to Australia, she spent six years working in a general private practice in Edmonton, Alberta.

Outside of dentistry Michelle is an avid fundraiser and has participated in a number of fundraising events including the Kokoda Challenge and the Oxfam Trailwalker.

Elizabeth Payne

Elizabeth (Liz) Payne joined the Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care in 2005. Since graduating in 1990, Liz has gained a wealth of experience working in both public and private sector practices, including specialist dental practices. Placing a high value on her professional development she has also gained further qualifications in the areas of local anaesthesia, orthodontics, oral health education and dental radiography.

Jeremy Wheaton

Graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Applied Health Science in 2000, Jeremy Wheaton has gone on to gain a wealth of experience. Before joining the Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care team in 2007, Jeremy worked across a number of practices including general dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics and specialist HIV/Oncology dental hospital services.

Outside of work Jeremy enjoys competitive road cycling and watching the rugby.

Sonia Murray

Sonia Murray is the highly passionate and driven practice manager at Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care (across all three locations). Sonia began her dental career in 2002 as a dental assistant, obtaining her Certificate III in Dental Assisting the following year through the Australian Dental Association.

Sonia Murray is the highly passionate and driven practice manager at Brisbane Implant Dentistry and Perio Care (across all three locations). Sonia began her dental career in 2002 as a dental assistant, obtaining her Certificate III in Dental Assisting the following year through the Australian Dental Association.

After a number of years working as a dental assistant (Queensland Teachers Union Health), Sonia was offered an opportunity to step into a management role and help Dr Mark Smith open a new dental practice in Nundah. She pursued this role up until 2008 when she accepted the position of Treatment Coordinator at Perio Care. By 2014 she had been promoted to Front Office Manager and in 2015 became the Practice Manager.

In her role, Sonia enjoys being able to work alongside remarkable periodontists who offer a wealth of knowledge and experience. She also greatly appreciates being able to take on new opportunities that they offer. Valuing her professional development, she has her sights on completing her Diploma of Practice Management.

Sonia holds a Practice Advantage membership with Australian Dental Association Queensland and is a member of Brisbane North Chamber of Commerce.

Away from the practice, Sonia enjoys travelling the world, practising yoga, spending days at the beach with her partner, and spending time with her two Siamese cats. She is also looking forward to welcoming her first child in May 2018.

Elizabeth (“Libby”) graduated from the University of Queensland in 2009 and has worked in the public sector in rural Queensland and private dental practice and specialist orthodontic practice in Brisbane. Before joining Periocare Libby was working for the Australian Dental Association Queensland Branch and completed a Masters in Training and Development. Her role included providing support to Member dentists in their Practices conducting audits throughout Queensland, designing and facilitating continuing professional development events for dentists and their staff in Brisbane and North Queensland, assessing dental assisting students as well as working with Queensland dental universities.
